The red-footed booby (Sula sula) is a large seabird recognized for its striking red feet, pointed bill, and streamlined body. As the smallest of the booby species, it excels in diving and fishing, catching fish and squid by plunging into the ocean from great heights. You can find red-footed boobies on Half Moon Caye, where the Audubon Society maintains a sanctuary for them. They nest in large colonies, building nests in trees on Half Moon, which is unusual for boobies since most species nest on the ground. Their plumage varies in color, with some individuals sporting entirely white feathers, while others display brown or a mix of both. These birds are excellent fliers, capable of covering large distances over the ocean in search of food, and they can often be seen being harassed by frigate birds.
