This morning while enjoying coffee on the beach couch, a lovely leaf-toed gecko paid us a visit. He was relaxing on the cushions and wandered off not long after our arrival.
This gecko is a small nocturnal lizard in the Gekkonidae family, and features distinct leaf-like shapes on its toes and a large head. Its coloration generally mimics the environment, providing excellent camouflage against predators. Adults reside on tree trunks, while younger geckos often hide underneath objects, like our beach couch. Leaf-toed geckos primarily feed on small insects and other arthropods. The IUCN Red List classifies these geckos as vulnerable, so any time we can share our space with them, we accommodate as best we can.
