JB holds a degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Colorado and began her career at Lockheed Martin in 2011 as a Mechanical Engineer working on SmallSats in the Space Protection Programs mission area within Military Space. She later transitioned to Systems Engineering before moving into Strategy and Business Development.

Advocacy for Hands-On Learning

JB’s passion for hands-on experience began in college, where she worked on the first generation of CubeSats. She continues to advocate for student engagement in applied aerospace engineering, helping to bridge the gap between academic studies and real-world application.

Lighthouse Reef Research Repository (Lr³)

JB Young serves as Capture Manager for Lighthouse Reef Research Repository (Lr³) and is a key member of the Executive Board. Her work focuses on identifying and aligning funding opportunities with Lr³’s mission, leading the development of grant proposals and strategic partnerships. JB brings a strong background in environmental policy, program development, and philanthropic engagement, helping position Lr³ for long-term impact and financial sustainability in the conservation sector.

Personal Life & Philosophy

JB has been married for 13 years and lives with her husband and their dog Cosmos, who firmly believes in endless fetch. A devoted gardener, skier, seasoned mixologist, and unapologetic party planner, JB brings joy, precision, and just the right amount of order to chaos to every gathering. Whether shaking a cocktail or planting a tomato, she approaches life with humor, heart, and a knack for making things flourish.
