White ibis

As Tropical Storm Sara sweeps through, the White Ibis (Eudocimus albus) are making the most of the high waters on Long Caye. These elegant wading birds, known for their bright white feathers, curved reddish-orange bills, and pink legs, are a striking sight against the stormy backdrop. Taking advantage of the break in the weather, the ibises are busy foraging for insects, crustaceans, and other marine critters brought to the surface by the rising waters. Seeing one is always a treat, but witnessing a group of these majestic birds together is truly special. Today, three White Ibises spent the hours Lighthouse Reef was in the eye of Sara filling their bellies, unbothered by our nearby activity.
